Ala Moana Bowl - South Shore

Ala Moana Bowls

The left at Ala Moana Bowls is one of the hollowest, and most crowded spots in town. It is a man-made wave created when the channel was dredged. It is famous for it "bowl": the wave goes super shallow and thick through it's main section.

The crowd scene in the water here is can be heavy, it's almost always filled with the locals exchanging waves. Everone like to hang out in the parking lot after surfing, its friendly and there are always BBQ's and people hanging out.

The signature "bowl" is where the wave become really shallow, and the lip turns thick, but still peels perfectly. A lot of the time it's possible to surf the inside and catch the waves everyone on the outside misses.Best wave this particular day Ala Moana Bowls

A rare empy wave at "bowls"

A very rippable wave.

You can paddle out straight from the showers in the parking lot, which is what most people do, or walk down the boat docks to the channel then go out. Also from the channel side of Magic Island.

Closest PLace to stay by Bowls: Hilton Hawaiian Village.

You will be walking distance to, and have a spectaculat view of Bowls and the surrounding breaks from The Hilton, pictured to the Left.

John Severson: "In this crowded world the surfer can still seek and find the perfect day, the perfect wave, and be alone with the surf and his thoughts."
