A few pics from Shark's cove
Went out attempting to film and get pictures of us cave diving at Shark's Cove.
Here is the entrance to the first underwater cave. Click for larger pictures:
It goes out underwater from where you enter to the right in this picture:
Here is a pic coming up out of this cave, which we also call "The Blue Room":

Small Kine Kaisers, Quicksilver Paddleboard race
Surfed an afternoon session with Taro and Glenn at Kaisers and Rockpiles yesterday. Pretty fun 2-3 occ 3 1/2 foot sets. It kind of reminded me of a Florida session, I was using my 5'10" epoxy fish, and was working great in those small waves.
I'm still pretty sunburned from working all day at the Quicksilver Edition Molokai to Oahu paddleboard race 2 days ago. I took a bunch of pics and put them up on Garrett's site.

Training Continues - Shark's Cove
Pretty much been doing the training thing every other day for a the last 3-4 weeks or so. DEFINTELY been feeling improvement in my ability to hold my breath underwater.
I am now able to carry the rock all the way across the sand 2-3 times a session, which is 60 feet across according to Garrett. I can also go through all the free-divable caves. A lot of it has to do with relaxing and taking your time, not expending a lot of energy so you need oxygen.
Yesterday we went out and there was quite a bit of swell, well for cave diving anyways, cause lani's looked like it had about head high sets. We decided to charge the "Eel Hole" cave where you start in the ocean and go down about 15-20 feet, then follow the tube about 50 feet or so to a big hole that comes up inside on the dry reef shelf. There is an opening about 1/3 of the way through, kind of an "escape hatch" if you need it.
I went first, probaly right when a set was coming through. When I got to the part with the "escape hatch" above and a little behind me, a wave of whitewater came down the hole on top of me, pretty much causing a white-out, fire-hose effect, I couldn't see anything. I grabbed the bottom of the tube and held on, and continued on through, a little winded, but I kept my cool. It was pretty turbulent in there!
When we all got to the hole where the tube opens up on the shelf, it was just toilet-bowling, sucking up and down. This wave washes across the reef and drags me about 15 feet in, and down a cave 5 feet underwater. All of a sudden I'm 5 feet down in a cave and I can't see anything, whitewater whiteout. That is when I knew it was time to get outta there.
I'm gonna get some pics eventually as soon as it goes completly flat again, and crystal clear.
Good fun!!
I found this Arial Pic of shark's Cove that shows the "Eel Hole" Nicely:

Logs 2-4 foot
Logs Cabins summer swell, super fun 2-4. Actually when I first paddled out I sat on the left and didn't catch a wave for half hour. I went to the beach frustrated, regrouped, then went back out and sat on the right and caught choke waves.
We were supposed to switch off taking pics of each other but the battery died after my turn, so I didn't get any surf pics of myself.

Body Whomping at Sandy's
Went to Sandy's for some serious body-whomping - bodysurfing action. The trades have been blowing pretty good so it was a good 2-4 foot plus out there, enough to scare you a little on the sets.
This one wave caught me inside, so I curled up into the fetal position because it looked like the lip was gonna land on my head. The upspray whitewater explosion shot about a gallon of sand up my nose, I was sand-blasting it out for like half an hour. Well worth it though because I got like 20 barrels.
Here is my friend Christian getting a few:

Windswell at Logs, Training
Surfed log cabins right before dark, it was almost head high on the sets, but not real good shape on the face. I did score one long right all the way down the beach, pretty fun.
I have been doing the training thing with Garrett the last couple days, and it's amazing the progression I have been feeling. Typically we have been running the beach at Waimea for about 1/2 hour, then 1 hour of cave diving. It's super fun doing the cave diving, especially when you feel yourself progressing.
When I first tried to do the rock carry, I could only go down to the rock then turm around and go back to the top ( the rock is about 30-40 feet deep.) Now I can go down and carry it about 30 feet or so.
We are going tommorow morning and my Photog friend John Jones is coming with his scuba gear and underwater video camera, so if I get some footage out of it I will post!

Training Begins..
Haven't been surfing, instead went two days so far with Garrett training instead: running on the beach at Waimea, then cave diving and carrying rocks 40 feet down at Shark's Cove. Summertime training for the winter waves, I hope to be more prepared this year than ever before.....
Garret knows all the caves like the back of his hand and can carry the rock underwater amazingly far. The place where you do the underwater rock carry is about 35-40 feet deep, the rock is huge.
He took me through a couple underwater caves where it's all dark in the beginning, you can't even see light at first. Amazing view in there..good to come out afterwards.
This kind of training makes your lungs feel like they are going to burst, but you push it a little farther every time, it feels great.

Miami surf session, waves from the plane
Just got back to the islands!!
I surfed a surprisingly fun session in Miami 2 days ago with all my old bros: Ron Keindle (popping airs left and right off the waist-chest high), Adam (amped) Horowitz, Abe Allouche, Pat (Mexi) Zaleta, Dave Haanster, and Fast Eddie Kubiac.
Really rippable little rights coming into Harbor House, zippering into the cubbyhole. Classic Miami session for me.
As I came in off the plane, I could see serious corderoy coming in behind the airport, surf town later today!!!
